Cold And Flu

Cold and Flu Season

Cold and flu season often happens when the outdoor temperature begins to drop and people are compelled to stay indoors. Flu season happens because of two very important factors: the temperature, and people’s preference for the indoors. Because the temperature drops, our bodies struggle to readjust to the change in temperature our bodies become vulnerable to viral attacks. Once the virus has been triggered, then the infected person would infect other people. Take note that because people would be staying indoors most of the time, then there is a larger chance for the virus (coughed and sneezed out by the infected people) to be “stuck” in an enclosed area, which would make it a little more concentrated or potent than if it had been let loose outdoors. In effect, many people contract cold and flu, and it is likely that the flu season will not die down until it gets warmer.

Depending on where you live, cold and flu season may actually be longer or shorter than other cold and flu season (the standard is around two or three months). Take note of when it starts to get nippy outside, and engage in the necessary precautions to prevent getting the cold and flu (see our section on cold and flue prevention).
